I read a lot of diy ideas on the internet, but rarely read about the results. Lots of websites also copy recipes without trying it out first. Last diy I tried was a dark coffee rinse to darken my hair. It did nothing but create a mess in the bathroom.
But after washing my face this morning I noticed I still had a lot of clogged pores, even though I was using Formula's Best Face Forward face wash that promises to unclog pores and I had been using scrubs every day, but perhaps not the best kind. I thought that if even scrubs and face washes don't help (and face steaming I have tried but I think it's a huge mess, boring and doesn't really do much but dehydrate my skin), I thought that for this problem I would find a DIY that works.
I came across this one: mix 2 tablespoons of very fine sugar with the juice of half a lemon. Scrub for 5 minutes in circular motions. The sugar will break down dead skin and oil.
So I did exactly what it said, and I think it was the scrubbing for a full 5 minutes that was very important. As soon as I washed my face, I noticed my skin felt very clean and smooth, like squeeky clean! I scanned my skin when it was dry and I couldn't detect one bulging pore or dry flake. My skin felt very even and clean. 15 minutes later it still feels amazingly soft.
So this is a method that works quite well. It may not deep cleanse, I don't know, but it gives a smooth canvas for cosmetics, it cleans the surface and it stops you from scanning the skin. The lemon also lightens the skin a little.
