| Not What I Thought by Amaal |
Phew, it's been a long time but, I am going to try my best to do foundation reviews quicker than last time. I don't think I can do a long post like this one but, I will be updating about the foundations I have tried every now and then ...
Today, I will be comparing two matte foundations; the cult favourite groundbreaking Fenty with the award-wining British high street brand MUA.
Fenty Beauty Foundation
Packaging - Pretty and practical. I like the frosted glass the tall bottle and the white font.
Price: Okay - for a high-end product £27
Shade: On the orange side (warm). It works well for me. I swatched the foundations in-store and whilst 420 could work, it didn't cover my blemishes and was just a bit too light on my jawline so 430 was a better match.
Scent: It has a pleasant creamy scent that's not noticeable but is there.
Oxidisation: Yes it does oxidise.
Coverage: Light to Medium - it's not full coverage unless layered or applied directly to areas. I think it works best when you use other products to conceal beforehand and then apply it on top rather than just packing it on. I find using a sponge creates a nicer finish than using my hands or brush.

Feel: Lightweight
Wear: Lasts pretty well and although it's "matte" it isn't cakey. This foundation does last well and can be a bit tough to remove - definitely double cleansing is needed.
Finish: A soft matte.
How to apply: A sponge works well but, I like to use a brush to get a quick even application.

Pro MUA Foundation
Packaging: Nice frosted glass bottle (similar to Fenty packaging) but, has no pump. Now, despite my initial revulsion at a lack of pump - when it came time to actually use the product on the daily with the little spatula - I actually preferred it as I could take out how much I wanted (sometimes a pump doesn't offer that control, pumping out too much or too little) and since I don't put the spatula on my face (only the back of my clean hands) it is hygienic. Pump drama over, I think the spatula is pretty neat and nifty especially if you're into mixing foundation shades.
Price: Cheap n' cheerful - no complaints! Plus, this foundation won Silver in the 2019 Beauty Awards - so don't knock this yet - £5
Shade: On the lighter yellowier side but, I did swatch a clean tester shade and this was the best match. It actually matches the lighter areas of my skin (neck/chest) undertone really well.

Scent: Smells like a light cream (a tad chemical but not stinky).
Oxidation: No not really.
Coverage: Light to medium - meaning that you can build it up to cover over blemishes.

Wear: If my skin is not prepped it can show laugh lines and does look a little bit dry and a teeny bit paler than I'd like.
Feel: Lightweight
Finish: A soft matte.
How to apply: I am prone to using my fingers for a quick application but, I'd recommend a brush or sponge.

Overall Thoughts
I like both foundations. They offer great coverage, they're matte but not overly drying on my skin, they work nicely for my skin tone, they don't feel heavy, and they give a nice skin-like finish. I'm surprised by how much I like MUA, and if you were to twist my arm in a dark alley, I'd actually admit to slightly favouring it over Fenty which kind of feels mildly criminal to say. Especially, since Fenty Beauty is the boat that rocked the 40 foundations sea, which finally got makeup brands (even cheap ones) to start mixing up those pigments for darker skins. I definitely consider that both foundations are beautiful - Fenty is an iconic brand that I suggest you at least try one thing from but, MUA is by no means any less amazing. MUA is inexpensive and if you're looking to try out a matte foundation, and you're on a budget, or are just not into department brand foundations - honey MUA is good!
