One of the most influential designers with the strongest impact on our daily life outfits (no matter where you go shopping) is Marc Jacobs. Yesterday Marc presented his collection during the NYFW and what a collection. Get Ready for polka dots, they will invade your wardrobe next fall winter season. Marc "wanted something strict and severe" he said, adding "I'm tired of all that easy stuff out there."
After all this time in the world of fashion design, after his ups and downs, Jacobs decided to get inspired or pay homage to his own old designs: "I thought about all the things I've done in the past, and perennially loved, from the trompe l'oeil to the polka dots to the glam collection that had the rubber, and the sweats that we've done, all those crazy american classics"
Those designs he loved came more mature an polka dots took a three dimensional shape to bring us what He describe as "classical".
The show opened with a classic white turtle neck top and silver rubber pants ( MJ worked with the british company "House of Harlot" on the latex button-downs and rubber to look like sequins dresses).
all the rubber an plasticize looks and those hour-glass silhouettes, the skinny long skirts, the Stephen Jones berets (inspired by Adrian's designs for the fashion show sequince in George Cukor's 1939 movie The Women) gave the sensation of a chic "dominatrice" but at the same time the softness of sheer shirts and lace make this dominatrice a powerful but yet soft lady.
Don't ask Marc about expensive detailing: in the show we saw one sweater in Shetland wool on the front and Cashmere on the back, one bomber jacket was trimmed in real fox fur, the men coat was there and the sailor pants as well. To accessorize the 63 looks, MJ used polka dots printed stockings, socks, the beret, some plastic wedge-heel patent boots and dunno if i should mention the MJ handbags; those are a must every single collection and this time they came in vibrant colors.
I leave you with the photos and i know you will love the new look as much as i do. It is a bit of Dior's New Look in Mugler Plastic or Balenciaga shapes. Some 50's and late 30's but All in All, it is Marc Jacobs.
