Monthly Favourites: June

I can't believe we are officially half way through the year. It seems mad to think that we have had no Summer and soon it will basically be Christmas, I mean stores will be stocking decorations from August. Not only does the end of June mean the end of the first half of the year but also the end of No Spend June

No Spend June means I am not allowed to buy any new beauty products for a month and for the first year ever I have been completely successful at this, except one bottle of Deodorant but I think that is forgivable as no one wants me to smell. This means I end this month feeling pretty proud of myself but it does also mean that there aren't any new beauty products in this post, instead there are some older rediscoveries that I have dug out of my collection. There are a few newer clothing items but other than that I think you will have seen most of these items on my blog before. I'll start with some of the beauty items and there will also be my favourite sample of the month as June is all about using up items from my collection, samples included.

Fresh Soy Cleanser

For a couple of months I have had the Fresh Soy Cleanser in my collection but this month I've been using it regularly and I actually really like it. It took me ages to get around to trying this cleanser, I bought it back in March but I had other cleansers I wanted to use first. I eventually tried this when I was incredibly hungover, I hadn't taken my makeup off the previous night and I wanted to feel clean. I hoped this cleanser would do the trick and it certainly did.

I thought it was going to be a cream cleanser so I was shocked when this came out and it was a gel. Even though I prefer a cream, this left my skin feeling clean and not stripped. Not only that but it does give your skin a through clean which was exactly what I needed when I was hungover and stupidly left my makeup on. I know, I am ashamed of myself! This cleanser also had the additional bonus of smelling like cucumber which is incredibly refreshing. Since my hangover I have been using this everyday and oddly I have been using it in the mornings. I have never bothered cleansing my skin in the mornings as it always seemed like too much for my skin but this is so gentle I can get away with it. I just use this in the shower to give my face a quick wash and moisturise and that's it, I'm good to go. I only bought the travel size so I could test it first and see how I got on but even the travel size is 30ml which is actually quite big for the amount you need to use. Any cleanser that can convert me to morning cleansing is a winner in my eyes so I will definitely be getting the larger size of this cleanser in the future.

Fenty Beauty - Killawatt Freestyle Highlight Duo

I purchased the Fenty Killawatt Highlight Duo as part of my first ever shop from the brand and I am still yet to use it up. I think I said early doors that I thought I was going to use it up but I stopped using it when I hit pan because I didn't want to repurchase it so soon. I sort of forgot I had it so when I started to go through my collection at the start of the month and saw it was so close to the end, I decided I should stop being silly and just use it and that is what I have done and I now remember how good this highlight is.

This highlight has two different sides: a softer, less glittery side and the other side goes all out with the glitter. I preferred the softer side and have basically finished that side now but my favourite way to use them is together. I have the shade Lightening Dust/Fire Crystal which is a pale soft pink/peach shade which is perfect for pale skin tones like mine. I can't believe I ever stopped using this because I really do love it.

Huda Beauty - Liquid Lipstick in Venus

Another rediscovery that I have been loving this month is the Huda Beauty Liquid Lipstick in the shade Venus. I was given this by my best friend a couple of years ago for my Birthday and I loved it but it made its way to my lipstick draw and I stopped using it. This is such a comfortable liquid lipstick which doesn't look dry or textured. It is long wearing and it is easy to use to make my lips look fuller. This is one of the best formulas for a liquid lipstick I have tried and I've used a lot in my time. Plus the shade goes with any makeup look so it is an easy go to lipstick. I can't believe I haven't used this for that long and I will definitely be wearing this more often. I haven't worn a liquid lipstick in a long time but this has revived my love for them. I've also been using my Sephora Cream Lip Stains more this month which is another favourite liquid lipstick.

The Kooples - Marylin Top

This month I may not have been buying any beauty but I certainly bought some new clothes, a lot of which you will have seen on my Instagram. There have been quite a few new additions to my wardrobe but my absolute favourite this month has to be one of my purchases from The Kooples. I love everything The Kooples create and I would love for my entire wardrobe to be from The Kooples but unfortunately I am not made of money. That being said I do always try to pick up at least one item in the sale and this season I purchased a faded black T-Shirt with Marilyn Monroe on the front.

I have been looking for a band style tee for a long time but I really struggled to find one with a design I liked but when I saw this top, I loved the colours and the more subtle design. A lot of band tops have yellow in them and I dislike yellow. However this was solely red with black and white which I find easy to style. I actually wanted this to be a shirt dress with a belt but the size 2 was not long enough for that. Instead my favourite way to wear this is tucked into a leather skirt with a pair of Vans. Quite a simply look, chic, with a bit of edge which sums up my style. This wasn't a cheap purchase but my cost per wear is already really low as I have just been throwing it on the moment I get home from work, just because it is so comfortable. I know I am going to get so much wear out of this which makes it worth spending that little bit extra.

Rose Gold Hair

Moving on to something a little bit different, I am actually going to include my hair as a favourite this month. I have had my hair coloured with balayage for a number of years now and for the first time, in a long time, I've decided to try something different. For the first time since I had bright red hair, a very long time ago I've got a bit of colour, I am now Rose Gold. I had seen the colour and always thought it looked pretty cool but never really considered it for myself but when one of my best friends told me they thought it would suit me, I decided to give it a go.

I went to Toni & Guy in Bristol and they did such an amazing job and I am so pleased with how it turned out. I am a natural red head and I wanted to keep part of my roots so it could grow out naturally but I do have a natural copper to my hair. I had my hair bleached and then a rose gold toner put through. The whole process took about 3 hours but I was so pleased at the end. The only thing I'm not as thrilled about is the up keep. I have to use a toner every time I wash my hair which is a bit of a pain but I'm sure it will be fine once I've got used to it. For the foreseeable future I will be sticking to rose gold and then once I get bored I've got blonde underneath anyway.

Sample of the Month!

Throughout June, my only way of trying new products is through samples. I am not allowed to buy any new products so that really limits me but through samples I try products I would never usually give the time of day. My personal favourite samples to test are perfume samples as I do seem to amass quite a large amount of them. For a week during June I will use 7 different samples for one day of the week, for a week to see if there is one I like and I have to say there was definitely a clear winner this year. This year I absolutely loved In Love With You by Emporio Armani. In a store I would never pick this up and smell it but because I had the sample I did.

This is a fruity scent which isn't what I typically go for but I loved the playfulness and the warmth of this scent. It starts off really intense but then it mellows a bit. It has notes of Cherry, Blackcurrant, Raspberry, Rose, Jasmine and Patchuoli. I just really enjoyed the scent and I will at some point definitely buy it.

That is it, the end of June and the end of No Spend June. However looking at my bank account and the state of my beauty draws I think I am going to continue my No Beauty Spend attitude as realistically I do not need anything and I still want to use more products up. We will see how it goes but I am going to try and keep spending to a minimum. Monday's post is going to be a round up of everything I have purchased during June. I have actually enjoyed No Spend June and for once the month went really quickly which is why I am thinking it won't be painful to keep it going.

I hope you have enjoyed No Spend June and hopefully it has inspired you to give up a little bit of beauty spending.

P.S anyone who read my No Spend June 2019 post will know that my friend Aleisha was planning on doing a no Starbucks June and I was going to do it as well to support her, well I have an update for you, we both caved. In fairness I caved before Aleisha but I was desperate and it was only one this month. Aleisha was buying a Starbucks basically everyday before June but she really cut down this month so I am proud, she too only bought one Starbucks so I think we can both be forgiven.
