ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers say an Anchor Point man who shot himself during gunplay spent five days with a “serious but not life-threatening” head wound before visiting a hospital, treating it with supplies at hand.
... "Investigation revealed (the man) had shot himself in the head on (Saturday) while negligently handling a firearm,” troopers wrote. “(He) did not seek medical attention until (Thursday).
In an email to Channel 2 Thursday night, AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen says the investigating trooper reported that the weapon involved was a .22 long rifle.
... According to Ipsen, it’s not clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, but the trooper took note of the man’s medical regimen.
“No treatment before today other than he put Neosporin on the wounds,” Ipsen wrote.
